November 22, 2004 (New York, NY) â Consisting of 15
Photographs and a
20-minute long video presentation, Dominican Rock: "An
Audiovisual
Experience" is a showcase of the growing alternative movement
taking
place in The Dominican Republic, shaping the musical
inclinations of
the current generation of native Dominicans. The exhibit will
highlight the key figures, including Luis Dias, Tony Almont, Leo
Susana, as well as other acts who have played pivotal roles in
the
growth of the music scene both in The Dominican Republic and
abroad; a
study based on personal interviews and music performances of how
music
has impacted the lifestyles of both the artist and fans
throughout the
years.
The exhibit aims to provide a general description of the actual
status
of Rock as an alternative genre in the island, as well as a
showcase
of that side of The Dominican culture other ethnic groups are
not
familiar with.
Produced by CCNY Alumnus, Harold Martinez (TV Producer and
editor for
the nationally syndicated show American Latino, on CBS2), this
presentation is the summary of his current research on the
subject
leading to a feature length documentary due in 2005 which is
currently
sponsored by the Dominican Studies Institute.
